A SIMPLE ROUTINE FOR WASHING NEWBORNS
IS EVERYTHING AT HAND?
- Shower tub
- Soft towel
- Clean pair of diapers
- Cotton pad
- Clean clothes
GENTLE BATHING
Lower your baby into a tub filled with warm water. The water shouldn't be warmer than 37 degrees Celsius.
With one hand, carefully hold the back of the babies head & upper back. Use your other hand to gently pour water & bathe.
WASHING YOUR BABY'S HEAD
At this point, feel free to add some shower gel into the tub. It shouldn't have any strong fragrances or other ingredients that could cause irritation.
Gently pour water over your baby's head. Make sure no water enters your baby's eyes, ears or mouth.
In the first couple of bath's, you might notice slight peeling of the skin. This is perfectly normal.
FROM TOP TO BOTTOM
Whenever you wash a newborn, make sure to wash from head to feet - not vice-versa!
Once you wash your baby's head, slowly move towards it shoulders, armpits, body, and only then hands and feet. End with its bottom & between its legs.
TIME TO DRY
Have a clean, warm & soft towel ready before taking your baby out of the tub.
Newborns have very sensitive skin, so be careful not to scrub too hard when drying. It's best to tap instead, making sure all droplets are gone.
Use a cotton pad to clean the belly button and area around the eyes. If any water entered the ears, use the pad to clean it as well.
